The Impact of the Pandemic and Home Design
with Jennifer Hughes of Turquoise Chair
Turquoise Chair is a Design and Staging business that provides services that will enhance the beauty and quality of residential and commercial spaces. The founder of Turquoise Chair is Jennifer Hughes, she is passionate about creating beautiful and functional spaces for her clients that reflect their personal style and transform their design dreams into reality.
Ahead of the 2021 Edmonton Fall Home Show, we sat down with Hughes and discussed with her the impact of the last year in the home design industry. With DIY projects on the rise, Hughes says she found “social media has been a popular platform for browsing for inspiration.” She found that it also made her feel connected to the community because it allowed “designers and contractors to showcase their work in real time.” One popular trend Hughes, and the rest of us saw was the conversion of home office spaces. Utilizing the unused space in the home is crucial as Hughes believes the “home office is here to stay.”
One trend that Hughes is focusing her attestation on nowadays is renovations in the kitchen. As people spend more time at
home and in the kitchen, Hughes thinks it makes sense that “people are travelling less and are able to spend their money on that kitchen reno.” The kitchen has always been a popular place in the home but has been amplified over the last
year. Hughes emphasizes on kitchen functionality such as “installing easy to clean surfaces such as quartz or porcelain countertops” is a must in an updated kitchen.
Whether you are planning on doing some renovations this Fall or next Spring, Hughes says when redesigning a space as “good lighting can make or break any room. It is essentially the jewelry of the home!”
