Sweet Temptations | Crave Cupcakes
Oct 18, 2016, 12:21 PM
We are thrilled to have the ladies from Crave Cupcakes joining us once more at the Edmonton Fall Home Show on The Food Stage Presented by SONiC 102.9 and The Tomato food & drink! With flavours like Va Va Vanilla, Red Velvet Elvis and Lemon Lime Twist you won’t want to miss their delicious demonstrations.
Sisters and Co-Founders, Carolyn and Jodi opened the dessert hot spot’s doors in Calgary in 2004. Now, 12 years later Crave has six locations spread across Alberta and Saskatchewan and they serve up everything from specialty cupcakes, cookies, wedding cakes, pies, and even provide gluten-free options!
“Carolyn and I have always been close, so when there was an opportunity for us to work together, we jumped at it,” says Jodi. “We worked on our family recipes with different flavour combinations and took a giant step forward towards having our own shop and have never looked back.”
Growing up on a farm in High River, Alberta, Carolyn and Jodi found an appetite for these little, sweet temptations while learning the art of baking from their grandmothers and mother. They still look to their mother for assistance with creating new and tasty recipes.
“We go to the family vaults to find recipes and then bake them again, and again until they are the best we have ever tasted,” says Jodi. “Our mom helps out sometimes by taking photos of her own creations with her phone and then she will send us the recipe that she came up with.”
There are lots of bakeries and cupcakes around the province, but there are a few key things that set Crave apart from the rest.
“Each treat is made from scratch with the use of simple, whole ingredients. And we, along with our staff members, genuinely love what we get to do every day!” says Jodi.
The ladies of Crave will be sharing recipes, baking tips, and more at the Edmonton Fall Home Show, running October 21-23. Can't wait 'til then? Check out their staff and family favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe below!
Sept 2: Beat your butter in the mixer until it becomes soft. We recommend using cold butter. Slowly add your sugars, (this is the secret to great cookies). Make sure the bowl starts to feel warm to the touch, and the butter is pale and fluffy. Use your spatula and scrape down the bowl frequently.
Step 3: After your butter and sugars are nicely mixed, add your eggs, one at a time, and then the vanilla. Mix until well incorporated - scrape with a spatula. Make sure you get the bottom of the mixing bowl.
Step 4: Mix your dry ingredients together in a separate bowl. Make sure you give them a little stir so the baking soda and salt are mixed into the flour. Add your dry ingredients slowly to the butter, sugar, egg, vanilla mixture, and mix again until everything is well incorporated.
Step 5: When everything is looking well mixed, removed from the mixer and use a wooden spoon to add in your chocolate chunks.
Sept 6: Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until your cookies' edges begin to brown.
We hope you enjoy these cookies. For sweet savings on the Edmonton Fall Home Show, connect with us on Facebook. Visit our Ticket Deals Page to get 2-for-1 tickets, and make sure to Like Us while you're there.
